After discussing with Andy I wanted to build a long term relationship with a contractor who did the work themselves, Andy promptly hired a third party flooring company to refinish the floors in my home. He then built a nice profit margin for himself into my price. Because he did not divulge another company had been retained, I left a key everyday for unknown individuals to enter and have access to the contents of my home. Had I been told Andy was not doing the work, I would not have used Andy for this project.
Needless to say, I won't use Andy again. Be wary.
Lastly, Andy estimated the cost based on refinishing the floors in two phases (two set ups and two completions). Andy informed me two phases would be much more expensive. It was decided at the last minute to refinish all floors in one phase as it would be much more efficient in terms of having to be out of the house. When the invoice came in, Andy did not adjust the price for having the work completed in one phase.
We think Andy is terrific. He'll provide you with a pricing list for different projects. His prices are competitive. He works all over Washington metro area. His workers are great, responsible, respectful and talented. I highly recommend him.
Further, I requested Andy to match the stain of the floor to the color of the floors of other rooms in the house. The decision was made, without discussion with me, to use a dark stain and now the floors in the house do not match. The only option for them to match is to re-sand the floors and refinish them again.
